THE BOOK

Financial Reporting: an International Perspective (FRIP) is a textbook designed for use in financial reporting and accounting courses at undergraduate level. It is aimed at students who have already taken an introductory financial accounting course and are enrolled on a second or third course in the subject. FRIP:

  • reviews the foundations of corporate financial accounting and reporting (chapters 1-6);
  • explains the financial reporting issues managers face when preparing their company’s periodic financial statements and shows how investors and other readers can get useful information from them (chapters 7-14);
  • considers alleged flaws in the current financial reporting model and the remedies proposed (chapter 15).

Solutions to end-of-chapter discussion questions and problem assignments are given at the end of the book.

Corporate financial reporting is heavily influenced by accounting rules and corporate law. FRIP focuses on international financial reporting standards (IFRS). European Union company law directives and regulations provide the legal framework.
